It
goes by many names; “ABS Academy”, “Slalom University”, “The Institute
of Cone Crushing” and my personal favorite, “Holy Cow, I Didn’t Know My
Car Could Do That!! College”.
Have
you been thinking about attending one of our autocrosses but felt a bit
intimidated because you weren't really sure what to expect?
Do you have a young driver at your house that could really use some
training behind the wheel? Someone who might not know how to handle a car in an
emergency situation? Someone who
doesn't know the limits of a car's handling and what it feels like when those
limits are approached and/or exceeded? Someone
that just wants to be a better driver? Maybe that someone is YOU??
If
so, then this school is for you and/or your young driver.
Please note; THIS SCHOOL IS TARGETED FOR NOVICE DRIVERS!
We're not looking for experienced autocrossers hoping for some additional
"seat-time", we're looking for drivers with little or no experience,
interested in improving their driving skills.
The
Houston Chapter BMW CCA (with some help from our Porsche and SCCA friends), will
once again conduct a car control school on March 14, 15 & 16, 2003.
The
cost for the school is $50 per driver and includes the following:
A classroom
session from 7 - 9 PM Friday evening, March 14th, at BMW North (I-45 @
FM1960). The Friday session is
open, free of charge, to anyone that would like to attend but it will be
MANDATORY for anyone driving on Saturday.
Driving
practice at Houston Police Academy (HPA) begins at 8:30am Saturday, March
15th and will run until
approximately 3:30pm. This will
include braking, slalom, emergency lane change, skid pad and other small
group exercises. Lunch will be
provided.
Your $50 fee
also includes entry into the regularly scheduled BMW autocross event Sunday,
March 16th, at HPA beginning at 8:30am, finishing around 3:30pm.
This will give you the perfect opportunity to practice those new
found skills!
A
cadre of very experienced BMW, PCA, and SCCA autocross drivers will be acting as
in-car instructors. Something new for this year will be that we are NOT
REQUIRING HELMETS to be worn during the event on Saturday.
You won’t have to worry about helmet-hair!!
We
promise that you will come away from this weekend a better driver, even if you
never attend another event! It is a
valuable experience for any driver to have!
We will run this event come rain or shine so be sure to watch the weather
forecast. If rain is predicted,
bring an umbrella and/or a raincoat and since you will be asked to empty any
loose items from your car, you may also want to bring a tarp or a plastic
container to keep your personal belongings dry.

dealers or in the upcoming chapter newsletter.
