The Andy Warhol M1 is unusual in many respects - even if you don't consider the color scheme. The rendering of this "Art Car" was completely done by Warhol personally. No preliminary sketching or trial painting of a scale model was done - Warhol painted the M1 based on his mood and feeling of the moment.

The car was actually used in competition. The M1 competed in the 1979 LeMans 24 Hours and finished 6th overall and 2nd in class. The drivers were: Manfred Winkelhock, Hervé Poulain and Marcel Mignot.
