Houston BMWCCA 2008 Points Standings

The Year-End points is the sum of your best six (6) event results. In the case of a tie, the seventh best events are compared. The top 3 qualified finishers in each class will receive a BMW Year-End trophy. Other qualified participants will receive honorable mentions. The tables below list the final results for the 2008 season.

Please see the link to our autocross worksheet here, for complete details and to get your car classed. You must class your BMW or MINI car before entering a BMW club autocross event.

(only BMWCCA members or associates receive points)

FINAL SEASON STANDINGS:

The final season point total for each driver will be based on the sum of his/her Six (6) best event finishes in a class. Points do not follow you from class to class! To be eligible for year-end autocross awards, a driver must be a Houston BMWCCA member and have competed in at least six (6) Houston BMWCCA or Lone Star PCA autocross events during the season. If it turns out we have to cancel an event during the year because of weather, the six best events requirement will be lowered to five (5). We'll update the web page to reflect this if it happens.

If a tie occurs at the end of the season, the sixth event results will be compared. If a tie still exits, it is a tie.

For EACH event the points will be totaled as follows:

1st - 9 Points
2nd - 6 Points
3rd - 4 Points
4th - 3 Points
5th - 2 Points
6th through nth - 1 Point

Never autocrossed?  Autocrosses are low-speed timed driving skill events. They reward car control and skill yet, most importantly, are fun! You don't need to be Mario Andretti and have an M3 Lightweight to do well. They consist of timed solo (i.e., you are alone on the track) laps of a twisty course laid out using traffic cones. The objective is to drive around the course without hitting any cones or missing gates. The main attraction of autocrossing is that it allows drivers to compete in a safe environment. Not only are the speeds low (under 60 miles per hour at the fastest point in a lap) but also the course is laid out such that the only obstacles are soft traffic cones.

Other important policies to note

a.  No Work Buy-Outs!

b.  Three Run/Work Heats!   We will assign registrants to drive in one of three heats, work in one of three heats, and rest/set out on the other heat.  These heats will be 90 minutes in length.  So you will either get some time to go get breakfast, lunch, or leave early.  Workers at registration will assign people in rotation as they approach the table - this will discourage people from coming early (a traditional problem) to get the run/work pairing they prefer.  On the other had, when you work, you will be done in 90 minutes!
